Amidst the doom and gloom in the nonprofit sector, we're happy to share some success stories.
Nonprofit leaders will tell you that sponsorships/handouts are not happening anymore. Cash-conscious corporations are reluctant to give handouts in the name of Social Responsibility. That ship has sailed.
However, ASK (www.askweb.org) is proving that corporations are more likely to invest in a nonprofit's viral fundraising campaign to facilitiate revenue generation and awareness.
There are 2 reasons that we are seeing more of this model, especially in the health sector.
1. Low cost CSR: The money that is given to the nonprofit is coming from donors outside the corporation. Shareholders love this. ASK has raised over $100,000 in their 5th Annual Fun Walk & 5K http://www.askwalk.org/ and Anthem (http://www.anthem.com/) can take credit for this without incurring the cost.
2. Viral marketing: Walkathons and other pledge fundraisers have a viral component. Every event participant, donor, and visitor to the web site http://www.askwalk.org/, will see the generosity of Anthem.
Anthem can deliver $100,000 to ASK without spending $100,000. They can fulfill their CSR objectives without compromising their fiduciary oblgiation to their shareholders. ASK gets the money that it needs.
Everybody wins.
