Cancer is a huge problem so naturally, there are many orgs devoted to tackling specific problems related to the disease and its impact. Some focus on research while others tackle patient care and family issues.
Regardless, it is a cause that is easy to rally around and very conducive to a peer to peer or viral fundraising model. Families and friends of cancer Patients are very willing to raise money for the cause and the people that they solicit are very willing to give.
The point it is, cancer is very easy to rally around and lets hope, everyone's efforts will one day lead to the end of cancer.

They produce an immense amount of work with an unprecedented low number of paid staff. This was made abundently clear to me when I would note the times on their return calls/emails during the late night or very early mornings. I have seen an immense change in the level of public discussion and a new interest in the disease (rather than simply the issue of smoking) on the part of established organizations over the six years since my husband's diagnosis.

Lung cancer may be seen on chest radiograph and computed tomography (CT scan). The diagnosis is confirmed with a biopsy. This is usually performed by bronchoscopy or CT-guided biopsy. Treatment and prognosis depend upon the histological type of cancer, the stage (degree of spread), and the patient's performance status.
