Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) www.ccals.org , a small but strikingly effective organization isn't afraid to run with the big boys.
Once again, CCALS is at or near the top of the list of organizations that raised money in the 2009 Falmouth Road Race.

CCALS raised $177,000 in the race. That was second only to Dana Farber Cancer Institute which grossed $192,000.
CCALS' annual revenue hovers around $500 K. Dana Farber's annual revenue is close to $800 MILLION!! It's impressive that CCALS was able to match Dana Farber despite obviously having more limited resources.
There is so much more to this story. CCALS raised $177,000 from 158 runners who were fundraising on their behalf using SWEET fundraising software. Thats an average of over $1100 raised per person. That's phenomenal. That's even better than having over 150 donors that give $1100 each. I'm not sure how many people ran for Dana Farber, but I would bet my house that it was considerably more and that CCALS generated more revenue per runner than Dana Farber.
Then there is the fundraising software. Dana Farber used Kintera for the falmouth road race. So, you can be certain that of the $192,00 that they raised, atleast $12000 to $15000 went to the software company. CCALS paid $1200. So if you considered the net total raised, Dana Farber only beat CCALS by a couple of thousand and CCALS actually raised a higher percentage of money that will be applied to program expenses.
This is an amazing feat considering the obstacles faced by small nonprofits. In the face of Dana Farber's garganutan marketing machine, CCALS still manages to raise just as much money as Dana Farber in their own backyard. Even more, CCALS gets to keep the money they raised and put it toward program expenses instead of paying software vendors like Kintera.
It's reassuring on so many levels for the small to midsized nonprofits out there. Combat volume problems by nurturing relationship. Get more out of your 150 supporters if you don't have the resources to reach a 100,000 people. It's possible and CCALS shows us that every year.
